Through our lives we will most likely have several mentors; a parent, teacher or coach who helped to guide you in achieving some aspiration or desire.  Whether directly or not, in some way those individuals were there to guide you and show you by their knowledge gained from their own past experience.

As old as the word’s origin in Greek Mythology, the role of mentor can be traced as far as the Aristotle who was tutor and mentor to Alexander the Great.

I grew up on a Navajo Indian reservation as the only Caucasian boy in my class. Most of my classmates hated me – I was bullied and beat up almost every day. I was also too scared to fight back, causing my own father to reveal his disappointment in me again and again.

Is Lack of Emotional Maturity Keeping You From Success?

I was no good in school – I got bad grades, my teachers told me I was a failure and a troublemaker. I only passed my classes so my teachers wouldn’t have to deal with me anymore!

I became convinced that I was both dumb and a loser. College wasn’t even a consideration. I had no sense of self-worth or emotional maturity – nothing to indicate that I would ever do anything good or noteworthy.

But something happened that changed all that. It began with a chance encounter of a job offer as a karate studio manager when I was nineteen, and resulted in the revelation of my Core Desires. In the end, I didn’t have to let my past determine my future, because my real success came from within (and had nothing to do with outside circumstances).

As a human being, it’s natural for you to have the desire to be successful in order to enjoy your life in a more fulfilling manner. But when you haven’t achieved that kind of success, it makes you wonder – why does it seem like some people get everything they want without any effort at all? What are the qualities that they possess that you do not have?

The truth is there is no significant difference between you and those people. It is all in the mind – and it comes down to identifying your Core Desires – your real passions – and acting on them in such a way that uses what I call your Conquering Force to achieve success.

It is just not a cliché when people talk about the “power within” – come to think of it, you alone are the only one who can be held responsible for the way you live, and you alone have the capacity to change your world.

The mind creates negative thoughts easily, pushing up barriers and causing you to believe that you must remain stuck where you are. Giving in to this negativity prevents you from doing anything that can lead you to success – it becomes a vicious cycle that keeps you trapped.

Real emotional maturity that leads to success comes when you begin to identify your own barriers – whether it comes through self-examination or with the help of a mentor. Begin studying your own thoughts and observing the things you constantly tell yourself. What kinds of barriers are being thrown up in your path?

• I could never make that kind of money
• I’ll always be stuck in this job
• I can’t take those kinds of risks
• This always happens to me
• I’m too ugly to find a partner
• No one ever listens to me

On and on – if these are your thought patterns, you need to aim for a change.

Start to think about what you do want. What are you passionate about? What would you do if there were no limitations? Why would you do that particular thing? What is your greatest desire? Why? What would it mean if you attained the thing you most wanted?

As you ask yourself these questions, you’ll begin to start drilling down to what your real Core Desires are.

Don’t be afraid to take some time about it. In my years of mentoring people, I’ve seen the same thing over and over again – most people don’t know what it is that they really want. They might feel they know things on the surface, but the true Core of desire remains hidden – and it holds you back from really releasing your Conquering Force and being unstoppable.

Having clear focus gives you the confidence to be successful at any aspect of life, whether it be in your business, your relationships, your spirituality, or your leisure time – with confidence, you can take actions that will help you move forward and get you closer to success.

In the end, you must remember that success is not a chance, but a choice.

Don’t ever believe you can’t get what you want in life.

The idea of being entrepreneurial was a scornful one to them. There were enough trials in life without adding more risk to it.

But my own Core Desire was to define Success in a different manner. I constantly explored my values, morals, ethics, habits, and beliefs to define Success from an inner perspective – taking action came as I learned and defined these things from within.

Before you can be truly become successful in your life, you must take time to explore the nature of success. You should think critically on how you can apply the exact formula of the nature of success in your experience.

What Do Values, Morals, Ethics, Habits Have to do With Your Success?

The key to success lies in every decision that you made and it lies also in your values, morals, ethics, and habits. Those who possess the right attitude and habits are the ones more likely to succeed in every aspect of life.

If you want to become fully successful, you also need to look after yourself. Know whether you are taking appropriate care of your mind and body. Remember that achieving success always involves decisions. It is vital to take care of yourself so you can decide wisely.

Achieving success will include challenges and stresses. By practicing a life full of gratitude, you can know how to deal with obstacles and be thankful for them. Successful people express gratitude for both the many blessings and challenges that they receive. They know it is important to choose to rely and focus on the positive side of life.

Success also involves being open-minded, rather than making assumptions and generalizations. As a successful person, you pay attention to details to find out what and who you can learn from. You don’t presume or put down others who haven’t yet achieved what they’re looking for.

It’s important to have a strong foundation of belief and strength from within, so that your emotions don’t take over and rule you. Feelings are very important (I believe they’re more important than we give them credit for), but it’s important to control them rather than allowing them to control you.

Real internal success also means that you balance every aspect of your life, especially your time.

Successful people are not ruled by procrastinations or laziness. On the other hand, true success never means that you are a workaholic to the detriment of your relationships or your health.

Finally, if you want to become like the successful people in this world (and it’s easier than you think it is!), learn from those who have gone before you. Don’t waste a single minute of your time – use it to seek out and be with people who can help you become successful.

Knowing your own internal landscape, following some simple self-care techniques, learning from mentors, and above all not allowing others to dictate your own definitions of success is what will start you on the path to getting where you want to be.

You know I’m not a college graduate – the classroom was always difficult for me, and it didn’t happen to be my particular path to success. But the real reason I’ve been able to attain what I have is through knowing my core desires and acting on them, and I’ve applied that in every area of my life.

Some would say that there are three major talents for business & money success – managing, multiplying and maintenance. I certainly agree that this kind of financial stewardship is important, but in the end, truly maintaining the kind of success you want always comes back to your core desires. It’s why you’ve got to understand:

• If your core desire is to make money, what’s at the heart of that?
• If your core desire is to be married, why is that?
• If your core desire is to be ‘financially free’, what would that mean to you?

One of my own core desires is to have a lot of money, and I’ve done that and will continue to do that. I’m happy to teach you how to do that. But it’s always important to really dig down deep and know the whys behind what you want to access that driving, conquering force that will truly sustain you.

Seeking out core desires is a process – it’s not something that you discover, act on, and then you’re done. This is why it’s so important to have mentors and continual learning in your life when it comes to maintaining your success.

Change is the nature of the world. If you’re remaining stagnant in how you operate, you’ll stay stuck with the same set of talents, wisdom, and output that you currently have. And if that’s not getting you anywhere now, it’s certainly not going to get you anywhere five or ten years down the road!
